Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix 2026

City: Silverstone, England

Circuit: Silverstone Circuit

Date: July 3 – 5, 2026

Home of the very first Formula 1 World Championship race in 1950, Silverstone is the spiritual home of the sport. Built on a former RAF airfield in the English countryside, its high-speed corners, Copse, Maggotts, Becketts, Chapel, are among the most thrilling sequences in motorsport. The British Grand Prix draws one of the biggest and most knowledgeable crowds of the season, and the atmosphere when a British driver is in contention is something to behold.

City Rating: ★★★☆☆     Race Experience: ★★★★★

Our Verdict: Go for the Race + the History

THE CITY

Silverstone is in rural Northamptonshire, so there is in fact no city here, just the circuit, farmland and the English countryside. The nearest interesting cities are Oxford (45 minutes) and London (90 minutes). Many people use the race as an excuse to spend a few days in London before or after, which is always an excellent idea. London remains one of the most important cities in the world for the African diaspora. Birmingham is also a great city with enough food, shopping and

PRACTICAL FOR AFRICAN TRAVELLERS

July in England is warm but unpredictable as always. The British Grand Prix has been run in blazing sunshine, torrential rain and everything between, all in a single weekend - or even in a single day! Pack for all scenarios: sunscreen, a waterproof jacket, and layers. The circuit is well set up for large crowds with strong transport links from London by coach. Purchase parking with your tickets, especially if you’re moving in small groups of four or five. Flights from across Africa to the UK are plentiful. Choose London or Birmingham Airports. Milton Keynes could also be a better place to stay than London, if proximity matters much to you.

WHAT TO EAT

The circuit has improved its food offering significantly in recent years. Beyond the circuit, the English countryside has excellent pubs. You cannot visit the UK and not have pub food. For more ‘premium’ dining experiences, extend the trip to London.

THE RACE EXPERIENCE

Silverstone is one of the greatest racing circuits in the world. Its high-speed corners (Copse, Maggotts, Becketts) are taken at speeds that challenge both car and driver at the absolute limit. The British crowd is knowledgeable, passionate and creates an atmosphere that rivals any race on the calendar. This is the home of Formula 1, and it feels like it.

THE HONEST WORD

The weather is the biggest risk factor, because a wet British Grand Prix can be very frustrating if you are not prepared. The circuit is also large, which means a lot of walking. Grandstand tickets are the way to go rather than General Admission if you want a comfortable experience. Logistics can be quite challenging if you have no prior experience, so ensure you are truly prepared.
