BUSTIN’ MYTHS ( I ).

Let’s address some misconceptions about Formula 1

F1 IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK

Most people who have never watched Formula 1 assume that it is a European sport for wealthy white car lovers or petrolheads. They couldn’t be more wrong about it. Here are some truths about Formula 1.

TRAVEL. FASHION. content.

It is one of the world's greatest travel experiences.

Formula 1 visits 22 cities across six continents every year. Attending a race isn’t just watching cars go around a track, it’s a weekend in Miami, a long weekend in Monaco, a trip to Singapore or São Paulo. Many fans plan their entire year around the race calendar. The sport has quietly become one of the most compelling reasons to travel and explore new cities.

It is a fashion lover’s world.

The famous VIP building called the Formula 1 Paddock Club and the Paddock, which is the area behind the garages where teams, drivers and guests gather, has become one of the most photographed style environments. Drivers walk in like they are attending fashion week, wearing clothing brands from Loewe to Louis Vuitton to Lululemon, Dior to Adidas, and so much more. If wrist-spotting is your thing, you will find quite some rare timepieces on the wrists of the guests here - Patek, Breguet, Richard Mille, TAG Heuer and Panerai? It’s all there. The trackside aesthetic has inspired a whole movement called motorcore that has taken over global streetwear.

It produces extraordinary content.

The storytelling, the drama, the personalities… F1 is reality television at its most high-octane. With tons of witty, hilarious content creators across Africa and beyond giving some great insights into Formula 1 events, Paddock gossip and much more, boredom is quite literally impossible.

ICONS. BUSINESS. PEOPLE.

It has created some of the most recognisable presenting and media voices in sport.

Formula 1 has its own ecosystem of iconic presenters, commentators, journalists and content creators who have built massive global audiences simply by covering the sport. It is one of the few areas where a new media voice can still build real influence.

It is a serious business.

Formula 1 generates billions in revenue annually. Race weekends pump hundreds of millions into host cities. Sponsorship deals run into the tens of millions. The sport brings the worlds of technology, luxury, entertainment and global commerce together.

It is a community unlike any other.

Race weekends are not just gatherings for sports lovers. Fans who have followed the sport for decades sit alongside people attending their very first race. They watch together, party together, attend post-race concerts together and share experiences that stay with them for life. It is one of those rare environments where a chance conversation in a grandstand or a fan zone can turn into a friendship that lasts years. The F1 community is loud, passionate, wildly diverse and genuinely welcoming, and once you are in it, you understand immediately why people keep coming back.
