The Singapore Grand Prix is the only night race on the Formula 1 calendar, and it is a spectacle like no other. THE CITY
Singapore is extraordinary, one of the most efficient, clean, safe and fascinating places on earth. For African visitors, the energy of possibility it carries is palpable. The Gardens by the Bay (the famous supertrees) are science fiction made real. The food culture is celebrated globally, hawker centres serve extraordinary food at very affordable prices. Marina Bay at night, with the city reflected in the water, is one of the most beautiful urban views on earth.
PRACTICAL FOR AFRICAN TRAVELLERS
Singapore is near the equator, so it’s hot and humid year-round, around 30–33°C. October can bring rain but the city barely pauses. The city is immaculately connected, and the MRT metro is clean, punctual and cheap. English is an official language. Flights from major African hubs connect through Dubai, Doha or Kuala Lumpur. Singapore is genuinely safe and welcoming.
WHAT TO EAT
Singapore's food is its one of its greatest cultural exports. Chicken rice, laksa, char kway teow, chilli crab, roti prata, all world-class and shockingly affordable. The Lau Pa Sat hawker centre near Marina Bay is excellent during race week. No visit is complete without eating everything.
THE RACE EXPERIENCE
The Singapore Grand Prix under floodlights is one of Formula 1's most visually spectacular events. The Marina Bay circuit winds around the bay with the illuminated skyline as a backdrop, creating images that look almost too beautiful to be real. The race itself is demanding, hot, physical and technically complex, and produces consistently good racing. The fan zones are excellent. The city embraces the race completely. This is one of the three Circuit to the City top recommendations alongside Abu Dhabi and Mexico.
THE HONEST WORD
Singapore race tickets are not cheap, think Monaco and Miami premium tier pricing. However, prices around the city don’t surge, and you get both a great race AND a great city for your money. Book early and stay near the circuit in the Marina Bay area if possible.
