Formula 1 Pirelli Gran Premio d'Italia 2026

City: Monza, Italy

Circuit: Autodromo Nazionale Monza

Date: September 4 – 6, 2026

Known as the Temple of Speed, Monza is the fastest circuit on the F1 calendar and one of the oldest in the world, having hosted the Italian Grand Prix almost every year since 1950. Set within a royal park just outside Milan, its long straights allow cars to reach speeds approaching 370km/h before slamming into the heavy braking zones at the chicanes. When Ferrari is on form here, the Tifosi, Italy's passionate Ferrari faithful, create one of the most electric atmospheres in sport.

City Rating: ★★★★☆     Race Experience: ★★★★★

Our Verdict: Overall Top Recommendation — Go for Everything

THE CITY

Monza sits within a royal park about 15km north of Milan, one of the world's great cities. Milan is fashion, design, football, food and one of the most sophisticated urban experiences in Europe. The Duomo cathedral is staggering. The fashion district around Via Montenapoleone is a pilgrimage for anyone interested in style. And Monza itself, an elegant Lombardy town with a long history, is thoroughly worth exploring.

PRACTICAL FOR AFRICAN TRAVELLERS

Early September in northern Italy is warm and dry, so expect temperatures around 25 – 28°C with minimal rain. Ideal travelling weather. Italy uses Euros. Trains between Milan and Monza are frequent and fast. Flights from across Africa connect through London, Paris, Rome or Frankfurt. Milan Malpensa and Bergamo airports both serve the region. Milan’s Linate airport is also an excellent choice because of its proximity to the city centre.

WHAT TO EAT

Italian food needs no introduction, but northern Italian cuisine is distinct. It’s risotto, ossobuco, cotoletta Milanese, polenta and the freshwater fish dishes of the lake region. Aperitivo is unmissable. Gelato is an art form. Coffee in Italy is both serious and cheap, but never order a large coffee!

THE RACE EXPERIENCE

The Italian Grand Prix at Monza is one of the finest experiences in Formula 1. The Temple of Speed earns its name, cars reach close to 370km/h on the main straight, which makes for spectacular spectating even from a distance. The Tifosi (Ferrari's devoted Italian fans) create an atmosphere of sheer emotion when Ferrari is competitive. This race combines the best racing, the best atmosphere, and some of the best food of any race on the calendar. It is a Circuit to the City top recommendation.

THE HONEST WORD

Go. Just go. The only caveat is that Monza's grandstands can be crowded and hot in the afternoon sun, so bring sunscreen and water. Book early as tickets sell quickly. Looking for a post-race party? Gr1d Club has you covered!
